Manage a VMFS storage device

The Operations Console allows you to see the details of your VMFS storage device, but you cannot mange the device from the Operations Console Block Storage Devices screen.

  • To unregister the VMFS storage device and remove the backend, deactivate all compute clusters in the vCenter, then unregister the vCenter on the Integrated Tools screen. See Manage VMware vCenter.

  • To add or delete VMFS volume types, log in to the OpenStack user portal using Administrator credentials, select your project, then navigate to AdminVolumesVolume Types.

When you remove a vCenter:

  • all compute clusters associated with the vCenter must first be deactivated

  • the VMFS storage device that was automatically created when you registered the vCenter is removed after the vCenter is unregistered

  • the backend associated with the VMFS storage device is removed after the vCenter is unregistered

  • the volume type is removed and is no longer visible in the OpenStack user portal Volume Types screen.
