Install and use an SPP Maintenance Supplement Bundle

Beginning in 2014, Hewlett Packard Enterprise will periodically release a new type of Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) called an SPP Maintenance Supplement Bundle. This is not be a full SPP, but consists of components released since the previous version of SPP. The Maintenance Supplement Bundle can only be used with the latest version of the SPP that was released prior to the Maintenance Supplement Bundle.

To use an SPP Maintenance Supplement Bundle with Insight Control server provisioning:

  1. Because the Maintenance Supplement Bundle must be applied to the latest full SPP, be sure the latest full SPP is on your Media Server in the appropriate directory and installs properly with existing Build Plans.

  2. In preparation for applying the Maintenance Supplement Bundle, either rename or make a copy of the full SPP directory. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends that the new directory name be in a similar format to that of the existing SPP so that the new directory will be sorted properly. For example, a typical SPP has a name such as 2014.02.0, so an appropriate name for a Maintenance Supplement Bundle delivered in April of 2014 would be 2014.04.0-maintenance.

  3. Go to http://www.hpe.com and download the SPP Maintenance Supplement Bundle. The Maintenance Supplement Bundle is in the form of a zip or tar.gz file.

  4. Unzip the Maintenance Supplement Bundle into the hp/swpackages directory of the newly created directory (for example, 2014.04.0-maintenance/hp/swpackages). When you are done, the Maintenance Supplement Bundle will be merged with the full SPP on your Media Server.

  5. Run the SPP Build Plan with either the --version=latest option or with the new version explicitly specified.
