Upgrade, rewrite, or downgrade a specific firmware component

Make sure the SPP containing the desired firmware is copied to your Media Server as described in Upgrade the firmware on my ProLiant server. You may then use the ––spp_version parameter in the Update Firmware Using SPP step of the Build Plan ProLiant SW – Offline Firmware Update to specify the SPP to use.

The Update Firmware Using SPP step uses the HP SUM utility that comes with the SPP to perform firmware updates. By default, HP SUM will update all components and not permit a downgrade of firmware. However, there are HP SUM options that will allow you to only update the firmware on specified hardware components or force a downgrade of firmware. Use the ––hpsum_options parameter in the Update Firmware Using SPP step of the Build Plan ProLiant SW – Offline Firmware Update to use the options. See Upgrade the firmware on my ProLiant server for ––hpsum_options syntax. For a detailed description of the available HP SUM options, refer to the hp/swpackages/CLIHelp.txt file in the SPP.
