About managing hypervisor cluster that uses a deployment solution external to HPE OneView

You can deploy the hypervisor cluster using external tools of your choice and import the hypervisor cluster profile into HPE OneView to manage the hypervisor cluster. When you import the hypervisor cluster profile, HPE OneView discovers the configurations of the hypervisor cluster and the hypervisors in the cluster. The import operation does not disrupt the workloads that are running on the cluster.

The following are the benefits of managing the hypervisor cluster through the hypervisor cluster profile.

  • Define a consistent configuration from the server nodes to all the hypervisors in the cluster.

  • Check the consistency of the server hardware and the hypervisor configurations in the hypervisor cluster.

  • Fix all the inconsistencies of the hypervisor profiles in the hypervisor cluster profile nondisruptively.

  • Update the firmware and drivers on the servers without disrupting the workloads that are running on the servers.

How to deploy a new hypervisor cluster using tools that are external to HPE OneView, import the hypervisor cluster profile, and manage the hypervisor cluster profile in HPE OneView

  1. Register the hypervisor manager if it is not already registered.

  2. Create a server profile template with the required physical server configurations.

  3. Deploy the hypervisor cluster using tools that are external to HPE OneView.

  4. Create server profiles on the servers that are to be part of this cluster using the server profile template that you created.

  5. Deploy hypervisors on the servers and add the hypervisors to the hypervisor cluster using tools that are external to HPE OneView.

    NOTE:
    • You can also import the empty cluster and later add hypervisors to it.

    • Ensure that the management network is configured on the hypervisor using the network adapter that matches with the port configuration of the hypervisor management network connection that is defined in the server profile.

  6. Import the hypervisor cluster profile using the server profile template that you created and set the OS deployment plan to None.
  7. Fix any reported inconsistencies.

How to add hypervisors to the hypervisor cluster and manage the additional hypervisors from HPE OneView

  1. Create server profiles on the servers that are to be part of the hypervisor cluster using the server profile template associated with the hypervisor cluster profile.

  2. Deploy hypervisors on the servers and add the hypervisors to the hypervisor cluster using tools that are external to HPE OneView.

    NOTE:

Ensure that the management network is configured on the hypervisor using the network adapter that matches with the port configuration of the hypervisor management network connection that is defined in the server profile.

  3. Edit the hypervisor cluster profile and add existing hypervisors to the hypervisor cluster profile. This action enables you to manage the additional hypervisors that are added to the cluster from HPE OneView.

  4. Fix any reported inconsistencies.

You can fix the inconsistencies either on the individual hypervisor profiles or update the hypervisor cluster profile to fix inconsistencies on all the hypervisor profiles.

Apart from managing the cluster of hypervisors in HPE OneView using the hypervisor cluster profile, you can also perform the following operations using the hypervisor cluster profile screen:

  • Modify the cluster or hypervisor configurations.

  • Fix the inconsistencies in the cluster.

  • Shrink the cluster size.

  • Delete the cluster.
