Connect servers directly to an HPE 3PAR Storage system

You can connect an enclosure to HPE 3PAR Storage systems using direct attach (also known as Flat SAN) on a Fibre Channel network. See Direct-attach Fibre Channel networks.

There are two options for connecting to a 3PAR Storage system:

Prerequisites

  • Minimum required privileges: Infrastructure administrator or Network administrator

  • SAN storage volumes to attach to the profile

  • FlexFabric interconnects

Connecting servers directly to an HPE 3PAR Storage system

  1. Create a direct-attach Fibre Channel network.

  2. Create a logical interconnect group.

  3. Add an uplink set that connects the direct-attach Fibre Channel network to the interconnect uplink port(s):

    1. Specify a name for the uplink set.

    2. Select Fibre Channel for Type.

    3. Under Networks, add the direct-attach Fibre Channel network you created in step 1.

    4. Under Uplink Ports, add uplink port(s) from the interconnect module that is connected to the 3PAR Storage system.

    5. Click Create.

    6. Verify that the uplink set was created in the details pane.

  4. Create an enclosure group and assign the logical interconnect group you created in step 2 to it.

  5. Add an enclosure that is connected to an HPE 3PAR Storage system and assign it to the enclosure group you created in step 4.

  6. Create a server profile that connects the direct-attach Fibre Channel network to the server hardware you want to connect to your 3PAR Storage system:
    NOTE:

The server hardware must be powered off before you add it to a server profile or edit a server profile it is associated with.

    1. From the Server hardware list, choose the server hardware you want connected to the 3PAR Storage system.

    2. Click Add connection.

    3. For Device type, select Fibre Channel.

    4. For Network, select the Fibre Channel direct-attach network you created in step 1.

    5. Supply the data requested on the rest of the screen and click Add.

    6. In the SAN Storage section, click Manage SAN Storage.

    7. Set the Host OS Type.

    8. Click Add Volume.

    9. Select the Volume Name.

    10. Set the LUN type.

    11. Confirm the storage paths.

    12. Click Add.

    13. Supply the data requested on the rest of the screen and click Create.

    14. Verify that the profile was created in the master pane.

  7. Power on a server.

  8. Verify a healthy status for connections in the Activity screen and associated resources.

Connecting servers directly to an HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage system

After you have imported an enclosure that contains a connection to the HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage system, and have created a direct-attach Fibre Channel network, you can connect servers to the 3PAR Storage system.

  1. From the main menu, select Logical Interconnect Groups, and do one of the following:

    1. From the master pane, select a logical interconnect group that you want to use for connecting to the 3PAR storage system and select Actions > Edit.
    2. Hover your pointing device in the details pane and click the Edit icon.

  2. Click Add uplink set, and do the following:

    1. Specify a name for your uplink set.

    2. Select Fibre Channel for Type.

    3. Under Networks, add a direct-attach Fibre Channel network.

    4. Under Uplink Ports, add uplink port(s) from the interconnect module that is connected to the 3PAR storage system, and click Create.

For more information about using the Create uplink set screen, see Uplink Sets.

  3. From the main menu, select Server Profiles, and do one of the following:

    • Click + Create profile in the master pane.

    • Select Actions > Create.

      NOTE:

The Actions menu is not present until you create at least one server profile.

  4. Supply the data requested on the screen and choose the interconnect module that is connected to the 3PAR Storage system from the Server hardware list. See Server Profiles screen details if you need assistance with your entries.

  5. To enable the server to detect the 3PAR Storage system, re-scan the storage subsystem from the server (this process varies by OS), or reboot the server.

  6. Allocate the server node WWN to the 3PAR array using the 3PAR management software.
