Reset a server

You might need to reset a server if the server operating system has become unresponsive.

Prerequisites
  • Privileges: Infrastructure administrator, Server administrator, or Server firmware operator
  • The enclosure or rack manager, and the hardware are successfully added and are managed by the HPE OneView appliance.
  • The server to be reset is powered on
Procedure
  1. From the main menu, do one of the following:
    1. Select Server Hardware and select a server.
      NOTE:

On an HPE Superdome Flex Server or HPE Integrity Superdome X server, you can reset the power of the discovered chassis or blade only if it is part of a partition.

    2. Select Server Profiles and select a server profile.
    NOTE:

Server profile configurations are not supported on HPE Integrity Superdome X and HPE Superdome Flex Servers.

  2. Select Actions > Reset.
  3. Select the type of reset to perform:
    • Click Reset to perform a warm reset that immediately resets the server without removing power.

    • Click Cold boot to perform a hard reset that immediately removes power from the server hardware, and then restarts the server after approximately six seconds.

    NOTE:

A reset and a cold boot can circumvent any graceful shutdown features the operating system might have.

  4. To verify that the activity is successful, check the activity for a green status in the Notifications area.

If the activity is not successful, follow the instructions in the proposed resolution.
