About HPE Composable Cloud with ProLiant DL

The HPE Composable Cloud for ProLiant DL enables integration of HPE Composable Fabric Manager with HPE OneView. You need an HPE Composable Cloud for ProLiant software license to use the Composable Cloud solution. You can manage and monitor rack connectivity modules after adding the HPE OneView integration to the Composable Fabric Manager and claiming the fabric in HPE OneView. HPE OneView allows you to perform profile and template driven provisioning of the HPE ProLiant DL Gen10 servers with networking connectivity. You can also view the linkage to rack connectivity modules on the HPE OneView Server Hardware screen.

The HPE Composable Fabric Manager is a separate virtual machine with Web and API-based interfaces that can manage the composable fabric and rack connectivity modules. The HPE Composable Fabric Manager provides integration between the rack connectivity modules and HPE OneView. You can use the HPE Composable Fabric Manager to configure all the Composable Fabric Manager settings that are not managed by HPE OneView.

The HPE Composable Cloud for ProLiant DL
  • Provides a unified composable experience for HPE ProLiant DL Gen10 servers.

  • Offers optimization for Cloud Native stacks, built on standard HPE ProLiant DL360 and HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 servers.

  • Delivers a new HPE OneView experience for HPE ProLiant DL Gen10 servers that adds next-gen Software-defined Networking (SDN) control with:
    • Expanded DL server profile templates that support network connections with Link Aggregation Groups (LAGs).

    • Auto-discovery, initialization, and life cycle infrastructure management.

    • End-to-end visualization of physical and virtual connectivity.

    • Connection status and automated cable validation.

    • Simplified VLAN deployment.

  • Enables easy and cost-effective scaling of private clouds with new rack connectivity modules.

Considerations for creating networks

  • Rack connectivity modules require tagged Ethernet networks.

Considerations for creating network sets
  • Rack mount servers support large network sets containing up to 4000 networks.

Considerations for creating logical switches
  • The logical switch group must be created with the Rack Connectivity Module type switches.

  • The rack connectivity modules that you want to add to the logical switch must be in the configured state.

  • Each logical switch must contain two rack connectivity modules.

Considerations for creating server profiles
  • The logical switch must be created before assigning the profile to a server.

  • The adapter must be connected to the same server access port on both rack connectivity modules in the logical switch.

Removing fabrics

You can remove the fabric when you do not want to manage Composable Fabrics or when you want to start with a new HPE Composable Fabric Manager.

Before removing the fabric, ensure that you:
  1. Delete the composable rack logical switches and profiles.

  2. Use the HPE Composable Fabric Manager UI to delete the HPE OneView Integration on the HPE Composable Fabric Manager.

For more information on supported rack connectivity modules and adapters, see HPE Composable Fabric Compatibility Matrix.
