Alert criteria

Reveals the available alert filter types that you either select or the alert filters that you enter, based on your choice.

Alert filters are displayed in the text field in a format according to the Predefined, Guided, or Advanced choice. Choosing another choice (for example, from predefined to guided) changes the format of the alert filter in the text field.

You can select or enter one or more alert filters in the text field.

Alert filter types:

  • Pre-defined

Presents a simplified menu of alert filters including:

    • All alerts
    • All critical or warning alerts
    • All critical alerts
  • Guided

Presents a list of suggested alert filters based on:

Each associated resource category specifies a category of resources, such as networks or server hardware.

The filter is displayed with an icon, which allows you to delete it., which allows you to delete it.

  • Advanced

Lets you enter a filter that captures the alert for which you want to be notified.

For example, an alert whose status is either Critical or Warning.

    status:critical status:warning

You can include a search term in the filter. For example, the following applies to an alert with an Active state that contains the text failed.

    state:active failed

Also, you can specify one or more of the predefined associated resource categories:

    associatedresourcecategory:appliance
    NOTE:
    • Filters have the same syntax as the Smart Search box in the Activity screen, so that you can copy them and paste them in this field.

    • Avoid blank filter entries, especially in large environments. Blank filter entries return all alerts.

    • Be sure to define the filter as precisely as possible to limit the number of notifications.

    • For Advanced entries, you can specify multiple instances of alert filters with the OR or AND operators to refine your filter.

The OR operator is useful for specifying filters of the same kind.

The AND operator is useful for combining non-similar filters.

Resource scope

Presents a menu of the previously defined scopes.

If no scopes are defined, None available is displayed in the field.

You can enter multiple scope resources.

A selected scope is designed to limit the alerts sent to those from resources defined in the scope. However, alerts from resources that do not support the scope feature are also included.

IMPORTANT:

Be aware that alerts associated with resource categories that do not support the scope feature are not filtered out.

Do not rely on this behavior to capture those alerts. Instead, when filtering by resource scope, always use the associated resource category filter to restrict the filter to resource categories that do support scopes. To send alert notifications for categories that do not support scope, create a separate alert email filter that filters by resource categories but not by scope.

Match any and Match all radio buttons let you determine if the email filter applies to any of the selected scopes or all the selected scopes, respectively.

On selection, a scope is removed from the menu and displayed as a button in the field. Each scope button displays an , with which you can deselect the scope..

Email addresses

Text box for the entry of the email address of the person or group that should be notified if the specified alert occurs.

You can enter multiple addresses, one on each line, with a maximum of 100 addresses.
