Update Superdome Flex firmware from a rack manager

You can update the HPE Superdome Flex Server firmware for Superdome Flex on the selected rack manager for all the rack manager components such as chassis, systems (nPartitions), and Rack Management Controller (RMC).

  • For the Superdome Flex firmware updates starting from version 3.0.512 and later, online firmware update is supported and therefore does not require you to power off the nPartitions unless there are hardware updates involved.

  • If the selected rack manager is in Unmanaged state, you cannot update the Superdome Flex firmware bundle from the rack manager.

  • Starting from HPE OneView 5.0, Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends you to use HPE OneView to perform the firmware updates for Superdome Flex. Any firmware update performed outside of HPE OneView (using CLI) is not detected by HPE OneView automatically. Refresh the rack manager manually to see the new firmware version. In such a case, there might be a mismatch between the baseline displayed on the firmware section and the actual firmware installed on the device.

  • Privileges: Infrastructure administrator or Server administrator

  • Rack manager is imported to HPE OneView.

  • The minimum required firmware version on the rack manager is 2.5.x.

  • One or more Superdome Flex firmware bundles are added to the appliance firmware repository.

  • For the Superdome Flex firmware updates from version 2.5.x to version 3.0.512 or later, power off all the nPartitions prior to the firmware update.

  1. From the main menu, select SERVERS > Rack Managers.
  2. In the master pane, select the rack manager you want to update the firmware version.
  3. Select Actions > Update firmware.
  4. Enter the data requested on the screen.
  5. Click OK.

If any one component of the update fails, the rack manager update will fail. The update task will end in error displaying an error message.

  6. Verify that the new firmware baseline is listed in the details pane of the Rack Managers screen.
