Replace the system board on a server that has a server profile assigned

When repairing a server requires replacing the system board, and there is a server profile assigned to that server, the new board must be configured with the same serial number and product ID of the server that was replaced to promote smooth operational transition in HPE OneView. Your authorized service representative typically makes such changes, but if you replace the system board in this situation, use the following procedure.

Prerequisites
  • Privileges: Infrastructure administrator, Server administrator, or Server firmware operator

  • Read the entire procedure before beginning.

Procedure
  1. Power off the server that requires the replacement board.
  2. Before removing the server from the bay, unassign the server profile from the bay.
This will release the power hold and allow the server to power on when it is inserted back into the bay after the repair.
    NOTE:

For DL server, while the unassignment of the profile is not required, the serial number and the product ID must be changed, and the server must be allowed to complete POST. It is recommended to perform this process before assigning the IP address to the DL server.

  3. Remove the server from the bay, replace the system board, and reinsert the server back into the bay.
  4. Connect to the console of the server and power on the server.
  5. Enter the UEFI System Utilities by pressing F9.
  6. Locate the settings for the serial number and product ID and set them to the same values that were set on the board that was replaced.

The serial numbers and the product ID are printed on the "toe tag" for that server.

  7. Exit the UEFI System Utilities and allow the server to power up all the way through the POST (Power-On-Self-Test).
  8. Power off the server.
  9. Refresh the enclosure or frame.
  10. Reassign the server profile to the server or bay.

HPE OneView recognizes the server as the same server that was removed.

  11. You can now boot the server and resume using it.
