Hypervisor cluster profile fails to remediate the inconsistency

Symptom

Renaming of an existing vSphere Distributed Switch (VDS) from vCenter causes inconsistency in hypervisor cluster profile. When you try to remediate, the operation fails with an error for port group names conflict in vCenter.

Solution 1
Cause

As part of remediation, the hypervisor cluster profile creates a new VDS and configures its port groups and uplinks as defined in the hypervisor cluster profile. During this operation, hypervisor cluster profile validation fails with an error due to port group names conflicting with existing DV port groups in vCenter.

If you want to rename the VDS without any changes to the hypervisors managed under this distributed switch, then follow Solution 1.

If you need a new VDS to be created for the hypervisor cluster profile, then follow Solution 2.

Action
  1. Edit the hypervisor cluster profile and change the virtual switch name that matches with the name of the renamed VDS.
  2. Click OK.

This action resolves the inconsistencies on the hypervisor cluster profile without any changes on the vCenter. The hypervisor cluster profile starts using the renamed VDS.

Solution 2
Action
  1. Edit the hypervisor cluster profile and change the name of all the port groups for this VDS.
  2. Click OK.

This action makes the hypervisor cluster profile and all the associated hypervisor profiles inconsistent.

  3. Select Make hypervisor profile consistent for the hypervisor cluster profile.
  4. Click Yes, Update in the preview dialog.

This action resolves the inconsistencies non disruptively by configuring a new VDS and port groups with hypervisor hosts added.
