Assign a server profile to another server

Prerequisites
  • Privileges: Infrastructure administrator or Server administrator
  • The original and new server hardware are of the same type (you can select only compatible server hardware).

NOTE:

You can configure a server profile from a server to "unassigned" or configure an "unassigned" server profile to a server, while the server hardware is powered on. If you are assigning a server profile from one server to another, both the server hardwares must be powered off.

Procedure
  1. From the main menu, select SERVERS > Server Profiles.
  2. In the master pane, select the server profile to assign or unassign.
  3. Select Actions > Edit.
  4. Use the Server hardware box to select a server in a different bay in the same enclosure or a different bay in another enclosure. You can only move to the same enclosure group and same server hardware type. You can also select unassigned if the server hardware is either not available for assignment or you want to assign it later.
To reassign a server profile from one server to another server while both server hardware are powered on:
    1. Configure the server profile to "unassigned" and save it.

    2. Reassign the "unassigned" server profile to another server and save it.

  5. Click OK to apply the server profile to the new server hardware.
  6. Verify that your changes appear in the details pane.

IMPORTANT:

When you assign a server profile to a different server, and the profile is managing internal local storage, you must manually move the physical disks from the original server to the new server to preserve your data.
