Automation of server profile management by a service manager

HPE OneView, through its REST API, enables you to write scripts and automate the management of your data center. Service managers can use HPE OneView REST API to manage parts of the data center. A service manager is software that uses HPE OneView to configure servers, networking, and storage to create the infrastructure required to support a service. For example, HPE SimpliVity is a service manager that works with HPE OneView to create a private cloud. By integrating HPE SimpliVity with HPE OneView, the creation of a hyperconverged private cloud is simplified.

When a service manager is using a server profile from HPE OneView, HPE OneView marks the server profile as being used by the service manager. As a result, in the HPE OneView UI, the Service manager field is displayed on the Server Profiles screen.

Service manager

This field displays the name of the service manager that creates and manages the server profiles automatically. If a server profile is registered to a service manager, then the name of the service manager is visible in the overview of the server profile. The Service manager field is not displayed if the server profile does not have a service manager.

You can access the Service manager field by selecting Overview from the View selector of the Server Profiles screen. Alternatively, you can also view the Service manager field from the Edit page of the Server Profiles screen.

NOTE:
  • You can use the Edit and Delete functions under the Actions menu in the Server Profiles screen of the HPE OneView UI, for managed server profiles. However, when you try to edit or delete such a server profile, HPE OneView displays a warning that the server profile is managed by a service manager.
