Configure trunking for the HPE Virtual Connect 16Gb 24-Port FC Module with a new configuration

The following procedure details how to create the HPE Virtual Connect 16Gb 24-Port FC Module logical interconnect group configuration where there are no existing configured interconnects with uplink sets that are passing traffic.

Prerequisites

  • Note the ports that are connected between the HPE Virtual Connect 16Gb 24-Port FC Module interconnect and top-of-rack (ToR) switch, and decide which ports must form a trunk.

  • Ensure that the connected ports on the ToR switch are able to be trunked together. The ports to be trunked must be selected from the same hardware trunk area.

Procedure
  1. For each logical interconnect group containing HPE Virtual Connect 16Gb 24-Port FC Module interconnects which require trunked uplinks, create or edit the necessary uplink sets.
  2. For each new uplink set, enable trunking and then select the appropriate ports and configure the port speed.

    After all uplink sets are created, review the logical interconnect group to ensure that the configuration is correct.

  3. If necessary, create an enclosure group and logical enclosure. Otherwise, update each logical interconnect to ensure compliance by performing an update from group at the logical enclosure level, or per logical interconnect.
  4. Ensure that the configuration of each interconnect is complete and that the uplink ports are online and linked.
  5. After configuring HPE OneView with trunking-enabled uplink sets, configure the trunk areas on the upstream Brocade switch. For more information, see the user documentation for the Brocade switch. For each uplink set, use the following steps to configure the trunk area on the Brocade switch:
    1. Disable the ports that will be included in a trunk area using the portdisable command.
    2. Create and enable a trunk area for the ports using the porttrunkarea --enable <port-range> -index <index> command.
    3. Enable the ports using the portenable command.
    4. To verify that the trunk was formed correctly, use the trunkshow command to display all trunks on the switch. The resulting information must match what was configured with porttrunkarea.
