Logical Switches

The Logical Switches screen enables you to monitor multiple physical top-of-rack switches.

A logical switch is added into HPE OneView as a managed or monitored logical switch. The logical switch can consist of a maximum of two physical top-of-rack switches (external to the HPE Synergy frame) configured in a single stacking domain.

There is a connectivity limitation of one logical interconnect to one logical switch. Interconnects within a logical interconnect cannot be connected to more than one logical switch.

The Logical switches master pane lists all the switches that are available.

A logical switch is based on a logical switch group configuration. If the logical switch transitions to an Inconsistent with group state (due to the changes in either the logical switch or the logical switch group), update the logical switch configuration based on the logical switch group to return to a consistent state.

The Refresh action is allowed for the logical switch.

Assigning Cisco Nexus ACI switches to a logical switch

HPE OneView allows fabric manager to discover and monitor Cisco Nexus 9K ACI mode switches. The logical switch must be added as Monitored enabling HPE OneView to monitor the logical switch for operation status and statistics collection.

In HPE OneView:

  • When you create the fabric manager for Cisco Nexus 9K ACI mode switches, the logical switch and the logical switch group are automatically created with a one-to-one mapping between the fabric manager and the logical switch. All the discovered Cisco Nexus 9K ACI mode switches are grouped under the mapped logical switch.

  • When there is an update to the fabric manager, the logical switch and the logical switch group are also updated.

  • When a fabric manager is deleted, the logical switch and the associated Cisco Nexus 9K ACI mode switches are also deleted. The logical switch group is deleted only after the last fabric manager is deleted.

  • Interconnect modules might be connected to one or more Cisco Nexus 9K ACI mode switches.

HPE OneView monitors the events on the Cisco APIC (Application Policy Infrastructure Controller) for changes on the monitored switches. HPE OneView reads the switch and the port attributes from the Cisco APIC.

Assigning Arista switches to a logical switch

You can create a logical switch with a maximum of two Arista switches. When there are two Arista switches in a logical switch, they must be in a multichassis link aggregation (MLAG) environment. MLAG must be configured on both the switches, and they must belong to the same MLAG domain.
