Change the deployment appliance for an Image Streamer OS deployment server

CAUTION:

Changing the existing deployment appliance is not a normal operation. Do not attempt unless required.

If the current primary deployment appliance is in working state, and you intentionally plan to change the deployment appliance, allow at least 2 hours for OS deployment or creation. You do not need to modify existing artifacts.

NOTE:

If the current primary deployment appliance is unreachable, do not attempt to either add or remove any Image Streamer appliance in this HPE OneView domain. First, perform change deployment appliance, and then you can remove the unreachable appliance, and then select a different appliance to act as the primary deployment appliance.

Prerequisites
  • Privileges: Infrastructure administrator.

  • When planning which appliance to select as a deployment appliance, consider the intended lifespan of the appliance to anticipate and minimize the impact of eventually decommissioning the selected appliance.

  • You have a backup of the Image Streamer primary appliance and its current artifacts.

  • To restore all the artifacts on the new intended deployment appliance after the change deployment appliance operation is performed, manually create an artifacts bundle.

Procedure
  1. From the main menu, select APPLIANCE > OS Deployment Servers, and then select the deployment server to edit.
  2. Select Actions > Edit.
  3. Search and select a new deployment appliance to replace the previous deployment appliance.
    NOTE:

Appliances that are cabled incorrectly are not displayed in the deployment appliance list.

  4. Review the confirmation message, and click Yes, change deployment appliance to proceed.

Changing the existing deployment appliance takes time. However, during this time servers have uninterrupted access to the existing OS volumes.

  5. Click OK.
  6. Verify that your changes have been made in the details pane.
