Hypervisor cluster profile FAQs

Question: Which hypervisor clusters are supported by the hypervisor cluster profile?

Answer: The hypervisor cluster profile supports VMware vSphere ESXi cluster using the VMware vSphere vCenter server as the hypervisor manager. . For more information, see the HPE OneView Support Matrix for HPE Synergy.

Question: How does hypervisor cluster profile update configurations nondisruptively?

Answer: Hypervisor cluster profile updates the configurations of hypervisors or server hardware based on the template configurations. If a configuration change is wanted in the server hardware or in the hypervisor, modify the template configurations for the hypervisor cluster profile. This modification results in inconsistencies reported on the hypervisor cluster profile. Remediate the inconsistencies using the hypervisor cluster profile to update the configurations on the server hardware or hypervisors. The hypervisor cluster profile updates configurations on one cluster member at a time sequentially by placing it in maintenance before performing any update. For more information, see Updating configurations in the hypervisor cluster nondisruptively.

Question: Can I import my existing hypervisor clusters into HPE OneView?

Answer: Yes. You can import and manage cluster of hypervisors that are running on the HPE OneView managed server hardware. All the servers in the hypervisor cluster profile must have same server hardware type in HPE OneView. The import operation does not disrupt the workloads that are running on the cluster and no configuration changes are made to the hypervisor cluster or cluster members during the import process. After the hypervisor cluster profile is imported, inconsistencies, if any, are reported based on the consistency checks against the template configurations defined.

Question: Can I delete the hypervisor cluster profile from HPE OneView without deleting or disturbing the hypervisor cluster from the hypervisor manager?

Answer: Yes. Use the option OneView only in the delete dialog of the hypervisor cluster profile. This operation does not disrupt workloads running on the hypervisor cluster.

Question: Does hypervisor cluster profile support VMware vSphere vSAN?

Answer: Yes. Using the hypervisor cluster profile, you can manage the vSAN cluster. Enabling vSAN feature on the hypervisor cluster or performing vSAN configurations is done using tools external to HPE OneView. HPE OneView does not support configuring vSAN or vSAN VMkernel ports on the hypervisors, however it detects vSAN is configured in the cluster and supports updating configurations in the cluster without disruption to workloads and data.

Question: Does hypervisor cluster profile support cluster of hypervisors with IPv6 addresses configured?

Answer: Yes. You can import a cluster of hypervisors with IPv6 addresses. It does not support the deployment of a cluster of hypervisors with IPv6 addresses.

Question: Can I update my hypervisor OS version on all my hypervisors using hypervisor cluster profile?

Answer: Yes. The hypervisor cluster profile deploys hypervisors using Image Streamer OS deployment plan. Modify the Image Streamer OS deployment plan being used in the server profile template or in the hypervisor cluster profile and then remediate the hypervisor cluster profile. It redeploys the hypervisor OS with new version on each server and its configurations. It performs this sequentially by redeploying hypervisor one at a time without disrupting the workloads running on the hypervisor cluster.

Question: Are changes performed in the hypervisor manager detected immediately by HPE OneView?

Answer: HPE OneView checks the hypervisor manager events to identify any changes in the hypervisor cluster or hypervisor configurations at a regular interval of two minutes. In a scaled setup, the hypervisor manager events from hypervisor manager take more time to arrive. In such environments, it may take a maximum of 10 minutes for consistency check alerts to be raised or cleared.
