Add an email recipient and filter

Use this procedure to set up an email notification when a specific alert is generated.

Prerequisites
  • Privileges: Infrastructure administrator

  • Email notification must be configured.

  • The specified alert to capture.

  • List of potential recipients if that alert is generated.

Procedure
  1. From the main menu, select Settings.
  2. Do one of the following:
    1. In the Notifications panel, click ..
    2. Click Notifications, and then select Actions > Edit.
  3. Supply the data requested in the Edit Notifications screen.
  4. Click Add alert email filter.
  5. Supply the data requested in the Add Alert Email Filter screen.
    1. Enter the filter name.
    2. Choose the Enabled menu item to enable this filter.
    3. Do one of the following:
      • For a simple filter query that does not involve a scope, select Pre-defined and choose one of the below mentioned options:
        • All alerts

        • All critical or warning alerts

        • All critical alerts

      • For a complex filter query (one that specifies one or more alert status, alert state, associated resource categories, or a combination of them) that does not involve a scope, select Guided and choose one or more of the available options.

Each associated resource category specifies a category of resources, such as networks or server hardware.

      • For a filter query that involves a scope:
        1. Select Advanced.

Enter a filter that captures the alert for which you want a notification.

For example, an alert when the status is either Critical or Warning.

          status:critical status:warning

You can include a search term in the filter. For example, the following applies to an alert with an Active state that contains the text failed.

          state:active failed

You can specify one or more of the predefined associated resource categories:

          associatedresourcecategory:appliance
        2. For each resource category assigned to the scope, enter the corresponding associatedresourcecategory.

          IMPORTANT:

If you do not designate associated resource categories for a scope, alerts for non-scope resources (those that cannot be added to a scope) will not be filtered. Do not rely on this behavior to capture those alerts.

          TIP:

To reduce typing, select Guided, select the associated resource categories corresponding to the resource types in the scope, and then select Advanced to continue configuring the filter.

        3. Edit the filter query as needed. Use the AND, OR, and NOT operators as needed.

        4. Select one or more scope names in the Resource scope field. A selected scope is designed to limit the alerts sent to those from resources defined in the scope. However, alerts from resources that do not support the scope feature are also included.

        5. Select Match any or Match all, as needed.

    4. Enter the email addresses of the person or group that should be notified when an alert is generated.
  6. Click Add to return to the Edit Notifications screen or click Add + to add another entry.
  7. On return to the Edit Notifications screen, the Filters list displays your entry or entries.
  8. Review your entries, and click OK to apply them.
