Please note that these instructions are subject to change in new versions of Smart Update Manager (SUM). Check the SUM documentation for latest instructions at the: Smart Update Manager Information Library.

Prerequisites
  • HPE Passport account.

  • Software that enables you to mount an ISO (image) file.

Procedure
  1. Download SUM from https://www.hpe.com/servers/sum.
  2. Unzip the SUM file to a directory.
  3. Download the latest SPP ISO file from https://www.hpe.com/info/spp to a local directory.
  4. Mount the SPP ISO file on a file system you can access, following your software instructions.
  5. Start SUM by double-clicking hpsum.bat in the \sum directory.
  6. From the SUM main menu, select Baseline Library > +Add Baselines.

The hotfix is included in the custom baseline.

  7. For Location Details, browse to the <drive>:\packages directory of the mounted SPP.
  8. Click Add. Let the add operation complete before proceeding.
  9. Add any other components (updates) you have downloaded from HPE to the baseline library that you want to include in the custom SPP.
    NOTE:
To enable firmware updates for Mellanox MFT components, ensure that the following .rpm files are included in the custom SPP:
    • kmod-kernel-mft-mlnx-4.8.0-1.rhel7u6.x86_64.rpm

    • mft-4.8.0-26. rhel7u6. x86_64.rpm

The version numbers might vary, but the files can be identified by the mft keyword.

  10. Select the SPP and the components from the baseline library.
  11. Select Actions > Create Custom.
  12. Select any of the filters you want to use. However, the following filters are required to create a valid custom SPP:
    • Bundle Format: Select Bootable ISO (SUM included) .
    • Operating Systems: Select all RHEL operating systems.
    • Devices: Select OA, Virtual Connect (VC), and iLO

    • Server Models: At least one ProLiant G7 server model and one Gen8, Gen9, or Gen10 blade server model.

  13. To create the firmware bundle, click Create ISO.
  14. Add a firmware bundle to the appliance firmware repository
  15. Verify that the upload completed by viewing the firmware bundle contents in the details pane on the Firmware Bundles screen.
