Planning to use hypervisor cluster profiles

HPE OneView integrates with the external hypervisor manager software to manage a cluster of hypervisors that are running on the managed server hardware. Managing the cluster from HPE OneView helps you to keep the configurations on the hypervisors consistent with the configurations in the managed server nodes. It also helps you to remediate any inconsistencies reported non-disruptively.

You can import a hypervisor cluster that is deployed using tools external to HPE OneView and manage it using a hypervisor cluster profile.

NOTE:

Currently, the hypervisor cluster profile supports managing a VMware vSphere ESXi cluster by using VMware vSphere vCenter server as a hypervisor manager. For more information, see the HPE OneView Support Matrix.

Benefits of managing the hypervisor cluster using hypervisor cluster profile

The benefits of managing the hypervisor cluster using a hypervisor cluster profile follow.

  • Simplifies the definition of template configurations for both physical server and hypervisor host.

  • Orchestrates consistent configuration from server nodes to hypervisors in the cluster for all cluster members.

  • Consistency checks and reporting of any deviations in configurations of the server hardware and hypervisor from the template configurations.

  • Updating configurations in the hypervisor cluster nondisruptively.

  • Nondisruptive firmware updates on the server nodes while updating firmware from logical enclosure.
