Update the appliance

You can download the HPE Synergy Composer bundle from the applicable release set at https://www.hpe.com/downloads/synergy.

The amount of time required to download the image file depends on the content in the image file and the speed of your network connection.

Prerequisites
  • Privileges: Infrastructure administrator

  • You have created and downloaded a backup file before updating the appliance.

  • You have ensured that other users are not logged in to the appliance, and no one logs in during the update.

Procedure
  1. Download the HPE Synergy Composer from the applicable release set at: https://www.hpe.com/downloads/synergy.
    IMPORTANT:

Select an image file that is compatible with your appliance platform.

    NOTE:

When you download the appliance update file, a link to the update HPE OneView Release Notes for HPE Synergy appears in the download dialog box. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends you to click the link to read, save, and print the information for future reference. Once the download starts, you cannot access the link again.

  2. Read the HPE OneView Release Notes for HPE Synergy to learn about the update. See the HPE OneView for HPE Synergy Firmware and Driver Update Guide to determine version-specific requirements. See the HPE OneView Support Matrix for HPE Synergy to ensure that the selected version is appropriate to install on the appliance.
  3. From the main menu, select Settings and do one of the following:
    • Click Update appliance in the Appliance panel.

    • Click Appliance. Select Actions > Update appliance.

  4. Use the Select an update image option and do one of the following:
    • Drag the image file from a folder on your local computer and drop it in the box on the Update Appliance screen. Older versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer do not support this method.
    • Click Browse, browse to the image file you downloaded, and select.

  5. Select how to upload, and click Upload.
    • Use the Upload the image file and wait for a prompt to install it option to install the update directly after the upload completes.

    • Use the Upload the image file in the background for later installation option to prepare for a later installation. Return to the Update appliance screen and use the Update from uploaded image option when you are ready to perform the update.

The image file is validated as part of the upload. If it is incompatible with the appliance or otherwise cannot be installed, it is deleted from the appliance.

  6. Click to view the End User License Agreement and Written Offer. Review the terms and accept them to continue with the update.
  7. Click Update to start the update process.
  8. View the status and progress of the update with the progress bar.
  9. After the appliance resumes activity, view its associated messages by accessing the Activity screen, locating the Update appliance task, and by clicking it.
  10. Verify the operation by examining the firmware version and date in the General status on the Appliance page.

If the update is successful, the appliance restarts. After restarting, the appliance returns to the login screen.

If the installation fails, the appliance reverts to its previous state, and then restarts.

The restart does not disrupt the operation of the systems under management, but it does close the management console.
