Updating configurations in the hypervisor cluster nondisruptively

The hypervisor cluster profile configures the cluster and the cluster members based on the template configurations. The template configurations are defined in the hypervisor cluster profile and the associated server profile template.

  • Server profile template — Defines template configurations for the server hardware. The configurations in the associated server profiles are validated for consistency with the server profile template configurations.

  • Hypervisor cluster profile — Defines template configurations for the hypervisors, and the configurations are built from the server profile template configurations. The configurations in the associated hypervisors are validated for consistency with the template configurations defined in the hypervisor cluster profile.

The hypervisor cluster profile enables you to modify the configurations of the cluster members nondisruptively during the life cycle of the cluster.

To make any configuration changes to the hypervisor cluster or cluster members, you must modify the template configurations. Modifying the template configurations will make the cluster members inconsistent. The inconsistencies in the cluster members, whether it is the inconsistency is in hypervisor profile or in the server profile, results in inconsistency on the hypervisor cluster profile. The Make hypervisor profiles consistent option is shown on the hypervisor cluster profile, and can be used to remediate the inconsistencies by applying the configuration changes in the template configurations.

  • Update all the cluster members to have a consistent configuration from server nodes to hypervisors by modifying the template configuration and applying the configuration.

  • Update the configurations of the cluster members in a sequential manner with no disruption to workloads.
