Power off a server

Prerequisites
  • Privileges: Infrastructure administrator, Server administrator, or Server firmware operator
  • The enclosure or rack manager, and the hardware are successfully added and are managed by the HPE OneView appliance.

Procedure
  1. From the main menu, select SERVERS > Server Hardware.
  2. In the master pane, select the server that you want to power off.
    NOTE:
  3. Select Actions > Power off.
  4. In the Power off dialog box, do one of the following:
    • Click Momentary press to perform a normal (soft) power off, where the device is shut down in an orderly sequence.

A signal is sent to request a graceful server shutdown. Some operating systems might be configured to respond to this signal and some might not be configured. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends using operating system commands to complete a graceful shutdown.

    • Click Press and hold to perform an immediate (hard) shutdown without a graceful operating system shutdown.

    NOTE:
    • Powering off with Press and hold option risks corrupting server information, such as environment variables, serial number, and product number.

    • The server profile can be configured to update from the server profile template when the server is powered off. You can also defer the update by clearing the Update from template after power is off option. However, server profile configurations are not supported for rack manager servers.

  5. To verify that the activity is successful, check the activity for a green status in the Notifications area.

If the activity is not successful, follow the instructions in the proposed resolution.

NOTE:

Powering off a server can take several minutes. A confirmation message is displayed once the server is powered off.
