You can download the
HPE Synergy Composer image from the applicable release set at
https://www.hpe.com/downloads/synergy.
The time required to download the image file depends on the content in the image file and the speed of your network connection.
Prerequisites
Privileges:
Infrastructure administrator
You have created and downloaded a backup file before updating the appliance.
If updating from HPE OneView 5.2 or earlier, ensure that no others users are logged in to the appliance and that no one logs in during the update.
If updating from HPE OneView 5.3 or newer, ensure that users logged in to the appliance limit the management operations to monitoring, read-only operations, and hardware management operations that take less than a minute for the HPE OneView interaction to complete.

Procedure

Use a checksum utility of your choice and the
.md5
file to verify the integrity of the downloaded update image file.

Download the
HPE Synergy Composer image from the applicable release set at:
https://www.hpe.com/downloads/synergy.
IMPORTANT: Select an image file that is compatible with your appliance platform.
NOTE: When you download the appliance update file, a link to the update
HPE OneView Release Notes for HPE Synergy appears in the download dialog box. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends you to click the link to read, save, and print the information for future reference. Once the download starts, you cannot access the link again.

HPE OneView Support Matrix for HPE Synergy to ensure that the selected version is appropriate to install on the appliance.

Log in to your appliance, select
Settings and do one of the following:

Use the
Select an update image option and do one of the following:

Select
how to upload, and click
Upload (if updating from HPE OneView 5.2 or newer releases) or click
Upload and install
(if updating from HPE OneView 5.0 or prior releases).
Use the
Upload the image file and wait for a prompt to install it option to install the update directly after the upload completes.
Use the
Upload the image file in the background for later installation option to prepare for a later installation. Return to the
Update appliance screen and use the
Update from uploaded image option when you are ready to perform the update.
The image file is validated as part of the upload. If it is incompatible with the appliance or otherwise cannot be installed, it is deleted from the appliance.

Click to view the
End User License Agreement and Written Offer. Review the terms and accept them to continue with the update and click
Update.

Click
Yes, update to start the update process.

Monitor the update progress in the
Activity screen or in the
Settings> Activity screen. Locate the
Update appliance
task and click the expand icon to inspect the details.
For HPE OneView 5.3 and later, during the fail-over and data upgrade process, the appliance displays the updating screen with a summary of the progress. Once the update and the fail-over to the standby appliance is successful, you can resume using the appliance. For HPE OneView versions lower than 5.3 or standalone HPE OneView Synergy appliances, view the status and progress of the update in the progress bar. You cannot access the appliance until the update is complete.NOTE: High availability is restored when the update process completes.

Verify the update operation by confirming the firmware version and date in the
Settings > Appliance screen.

Back up the appliance after the update.
NOTE: After upgrading your appliance, create a backup. If you must restore the appliance, you can only restore from a backup that was created on an appliance with the same version.
When updating from HPE OneView 5.2 and lower version, If the update is successful, the appliance restarts. After restarting, the appliance returns to the login screen.
If the installation fails, the appliance reverts to its previous state, and then restarts.
The restart does not disrupt the operation of the systems under management, but it does close the management console.
