Interconnect module connections drop when removing or replacing stacking cables

Symptom
NOTE:

Observed in HPE Virtual Connect SE 40Gb F8 Module for HPE Synergy and firmware version 1.3.0.x and later.

Attempts to remove or replace stacking cables on HPE VC SE 40Gb F8 Module in redundant or HA configurations result in the following:
  • Traffic running on port 1 through A-side interconnect module is interrupted, if NIC teaming has not been configured.

  • Virtual Connect Redundancy is lost.

  • In a multi enclosure setup, the topology becomes invalid or critical from A-side interconnect modules

  • HPE OneView does not report the correct physical state or health.

Cause

The current topology shuts down the uplink and downlink ports on A-side of the Interconnect module when stacking cables are unplugged.

Action
  1. To avoid a reduction in the bandwidth or in connectivity issues, do not remove both the stacking cables at the same time.
  2. Set up NIC teaming mode (switch independent mode or switch dependent mode).
  3. Replace or plug in the stacking cables.

HPE OneView takes about 10 minutes to return to the normal state. During recover, all port1 connects to A-side interconnect module are deactivated.
