Installing the SAS expander card

In this server, the expander card is supported in the PCIe3 expansion slot 5.

Prerequisites
Before you perform this procedure:
Procedure
  1. Power down the server.
  2. Remove all power:
    1. Disconnect each power cord from the power source.
    2. Disconnect each power cord from the server.
  3. Disconnect all peripheral cables from the server.
  4. Do one of the following:
  5. Remove the access panel.
  6. Remove the PCI air baffle.
  7. Remove the system air baffle.
  8. If you are using a P408i-p Smart Array controller, install the energy pack.
  9. Remove the PCI slot blank:
    1. Open the PCI slot retainer.

  10. Connect the Mini-SAS X-cables to the expander card.
  11. Install the SAS expander card in slot 5.

    Installing a storage controller

    Make sure that the SAS expander card is firmly seated in the slot.

  12. Install the Smart Array controller in slot 3.
  13. Connect the 876502-001 Mini-SAS X-cable to the controller.
  14. Connect the following Mini-SAS X-cables to the drive backplanes:
    • P12820-001 Mini-SAS X-cable = Drive box backplane 1

    • 876483-001 Mini-SAS X-cable = Drive box backplane 2

  15. Close the PCI slot retainer.

  16. Install the system air baffle.
  17. Install the PCI air baffle.
  18. Install the access panel.
  19. Do one of the following:
  20. Connect all peripheral cables to the server.
  21. Connect each power cord to the server.
  22. Connect each power cord to the power source.
  23. Power up the server.
  24. Configure the storage controller.

The installation is complete.
