Installing an expansion board

Prerequisites
Before you perform this procedure:
Procedure
  1. Remove the front bezel.
  2. Power down the server.
  3. Remove all power:
    1. Disconnect each power cord from the power source.
    2. Disconnect each power cord from the server.
  4. Disconnect all peripheral cables from the server.
  5. Do one of the following:
  6. Remove the access panel.
  7. Remove the air baffle.
  8. Optional: If installed, remove the fan cage.

    This step is only required if the expansion board cabling needs to be routed through the front cable channel.

  9. Remove the PCI blank retainer.
  10. Identify the expansion slot compatible with the option.
  11. Remove the PCI slot blank.

    If you are installing a double-width expansion board, remove two PCI slot blanks.

  12. If the expansion board option does not include a screw for installation, remove one of the preinstalled PCI board screw.
  13. Make sure that any switches or jumpers on the expansion board are set properly.

  14. Install the expansion board.

  15. Make sure that the board is firmly seated in the slot.
  16. Observe the guidelines for managing cables.
  17. Connect all necessary internal cabling to the expansion board.

  18. Install the PCI blank retainer.
  19. If the fan cage was removed, do the following:
    1. Make sure that all the system cables that are routed through the front cable channel are properly secured in the metal cable tabs. This is done to prevent system damage due to cables being inadvertently caught under the fan cage.
    2. Install the fan cage.
  20. Install the air baffle.
  21. Install the access panel.
  22. Do one of the following:
  23. Connect all necessary external cabling to the expansion board.

  24. Connect all peripheral cables to the server.
  25. Connect each power cord to the server.
  26. Connect each power cord to the power source.
  27. Power up the server.
  28. Install the front bezel.

The installation is complete.
