Type of HP Insight Control Licenses
HP Insight Control licenses grants you the right to use the product without any legal implications. HP offers you several different licensing approaches for use.
- Bundled with HP Server hardware

Most of the ProLiant servers are sold pre-packaged with Insight Control, allowing you to immediately extend the functionality of your HP ProLiant server solution. HP BladeSystem enclosures can be bought or configured to include Insight Control licenses. Insight Control is also available as a part of Performance Bundle with some of the ProLiant rack and tower (ML/DL) servers.
- Single-node licenses

A single-node license is the most basic option. When you order a single-node license, you will receive an entitlement certificate for your license and instructions on how to register and redeem that entitlement. Single-node licenses can be either physical delivery or electronic-delivery (E-delivery). In case of physical delivery, the entitlement certificate will be shipped to you as a physical deliverable; whereas, in case of E-delivery, the entitlement certificate will be emailed to you.
Most products ship as license-only packs that don't include any media. You may choose to download any software images you require for free and create your own installation media, or you may separately purchase an HP Insight Management Media kit. You may use a single-node license on one target platform; if you have more targets to cover, you will need to either purchase more single-node licenses or consider one of the volume choices. Note that purchase of single-node licenses can result in the largest number of license keys to have to manage.
- Volume choices

Customers can receive volume licenses in several ways: Electronic, Pay as you Go or Flexible Quantity Kits. If you prefer a fully electronic process, the E-Delivery option is ideal and strongly recommended by HP for most customers. In limited worldwide regions and through select points of sale, HP has available electronic license offering. The maximum quantity for electronic purchases is 50,000. Upon ordering electronic licenses, you will receive a single electronic license entitlement by email for the exact number of licenses that you ordered. If you would like to establish a contract with HP that allows you to Pay as you Go for licenses whenever you need them and then activate them through a single, upfront, master license key assigned to your company, department, or branch, an activation key agreement (AKA) should be your choice. If you prefer physical delivery, a flexible-quantity license will provide you with a single physical license entitlement certificate for the exact number of licenses that you ordered.
What type of Insight Control license should I buy?
There are multiple levels of licensing depending on your business needs. Insight software and Insight Control software is available directly from HP and from HP partners. HP wants you to be able to include the software you require whenever you purchase your ProLiant servers and other options. Of course, Insight software and Insight Control software can be bought separately as well. Since you have several packaging options available to choose from, the following information should help you make a choice.
- Purchasing new servers

If you are purchasing new HP Servers, we recommend that you purchase HP Insight Control as a Bundled license with HP Servers hardware to obtain discounted prices. Speak to your representative and ask him or her to include this option or buy Online.
- Large installed base of ProLiant and Blades server
-
If you want one activation key to use for all licenses of a product you might purchase over the next one to three years, frequently adding more ProLiants to your infrastructure on which you want to run the software, anticipate needing many hundreds or thousands of copies of the software over time, have a sales contract already in place with HP that you'd like to extend to include the software or can tolerate a contract negotiation period prior to being able to deploy and use your software products then consider purchasing Pay as you Go through an Activation Key Agreement as part of the Volume choices.
If you decide upon an Activation Key Agreement (AKA), there are additional actions to perform. First, You must establish a sales contract directly with HP. This can be a protracted process involving legal negotiations. Consult with your HP sales representative or submit the AKA request form regarding initiation of the contracting process. Second, you must prepare to administer and control the master activation keys you will be issued by HP. These keys provide the ability to install and activate the software for a target hardware platform. Their dissemination within your IT organization requires careful planning because each usage of a master key should be preceded by the purchase of an appropriate tracking license. Third, you must ready your purchase process to order AKA tracking licenses for each instance where you need to use the software. In many cases customers want licenses to use Insight software and Insight Control software on new ProLiant servers they plan to purchase, and their planning should include the addition of the AKA tracking license part numbers to their standard server purchase configurations. Fourth, you must prepare to account for and monitor your purchases of tracking licenses. Your purchase order history provides the means for you to audit how many tracking licenses of each product your organization is entitled to be using worldwide. Fifth, You must separately and manually register your tracking licenses upon purchase for any HP Technical Support and Update services they include.
- One-time purchase for that quantity of licenses

If you want a single activation key to use for the entire quantity of licenses you purchase at any given time and expect to make a few such purchases over the course of a year and prefer not to establish a sales contract for Insight software and Insight Control software but still want to minimize the number of activation keys and materials you receive with each order, then consider purchasing Flexible Quantity Kits as part of the Volume choices.
- One-time purchase for that quantity of licenses

If You need just a few individual copies of the software, then consider purchasing Single Node licenses.
Licensing terms and conditions:
HP Insight Control licenses have the following summarized terms and conditions for use.
HP Insight Control is licensed 'per physical system'. (E.g. Ten physical servers would require ten Insight Control licenses, but one physical server with ten virtual machines only requires one Insight Control license.) License activation of a product for its intended target system is typically accomplished by entering a 25-digit license activation key. Once you activate your production software license, it's good for the life of the target system (i.e. a perpetual license). You may not transfer the activated product and license from one target to another. Product upgrades and updates are included in the HP Technical Support & Updates. HP Insight Control includes 1-year of 24x7 Technical Support & Updates with your initial purchase. The term of the support and updates can be extended to 3-, 4-, or 5-years by purchasing the appropriate Care Pack from HP.
After purchase, product registration is required to obtain the applicable license activation keys. More information is available here. Refer to the product End User License Agreement (EULA) included with your software for specific license terms and conditions.
