Update Intelligent Provisioning firmware

You can use the Hewlett Packard Enterprise provided ProLiant SW - Intelligent Provisioning Firmware Update Build Plan to update Hewlett Packard Enterprise Intelligent Provisioning firmware. The following requirements must be met in order to run this Build Plan:

  • PXE booting must be enabled on your deployment network. The Intelligent Provisioning firmware cannot be updated while it is actively running, so the server needs to be PXE booted into the service OS. Make sure you are either using the internal DHCP server on the appliance, or your external DHCP server has been properly configured with all of the required options. See the external DHCP instructions in the Insight Control server provisioning Installation Guide.

  • The Hewlett Packard Enterprise Intelligent Provisioning ISO must be extracted on the Media Server under the folder Media/ip/<intelligent-provisioning-version>, where <intelligent-provisioning-version> is the version of the Intelligent Provisioning firmware. For example, if you plan on installing HPE Intelligent Provisioning version 1.60, you would create the folder Media/ip/1.60 and extract the ISO under that folder. For more details, see the Media Server instructions in the Insight Control server provisioning Administrator Guide and the Insight Control server provisioning Installation Guide.

By default, the Build Plan installs the latest Intelligent Provisioning firmware, as determined by the sort order of the versions on the Media Server. So for example, this means that if you have a 1.50 and 1.60 folder on the Media Server, the firmware in the 1.60 folder will be installed.

You can request that a specific version of the Intelligent Provisioning firmware be installed by setting the IPversion custom attribute to the version you want. For example, set IPversion to 1.50 if you want to install HPE Intelligent Provisioning version 1.50.

[IMPORTANT: ]

IMPORTANT: ProLiant Gen8 servers use HPE Intelligent Provisioning version 1.xx and ProLiant Gen9 server use version 2.xx. The Build Plan gives an error if you try to install Intelligent Provisioning firmware 1.xx on a Gen9 server or visa versa. Because of this, you might need to explicitly specify the version number when updating Gen8 servers.
