Create a Build Plan to enable virtualization

In order to install any of the supported virtualization hypervisors, virtualization must be enabled in the BIOS. Virtualization is enabled by default, so there is no need to modify the BIOS settings. If virtualization has been disabled on your server, you can either enable virtualization in the RBSU under the System Options > Processor Options menu, or create a Build Plan to enable virtualization as described in the following section:

To create a Build Plan to enable virtualization

  1. Save a copy of the HP-provided HW — System ROM Enable Boot from SAN on Bladeserver Build Plan, changing its name to reflect that it is enabling virtualization.

  2. Keep the first five steps as is. Replace the sixth step System ROM Configuration — Enable Boot from SAN with a new step to deploy the enable virtualization configuration file:

    Type: Deploy Configuration File

Configuration File: System ROM Configuration — Enable Virtualization

    Install path: /tmp/sstk/conrep-virt.xml.

  3. Edit the seventh step Manage System Configuration and change the parameters of this step to: -l /tmp/sstk/conrep-virt.xml. Any other parameters associated with the original step are preserved.

  4. Save the Build Plan.

The Build Plan is complete and ready to enable virtualization on a target server.
