Installing the redundant power supply option

  1. Power down the server.
  2. Access the product rear panel.
  3. Release the power cord from the strain relief clip.

  4. Remove all power:
    1. Disconnect each power cord from the power source.
    2. Disconnect each power cord from the server.
  5. Remove the server from the rack.
  6. Place the server on a sturdy, level surface.
  7. Remove the access panel.
  8. Remove the air baffle.
  9. If installed, remove the primary PCI riser cage.
  10. Disconnect the non-hot-plug power supply cables.
  11. Release the non-hot-plug power supply cables from the cable clip.

  12. Remove the non-hot-plug power supply.

  13. Install the RPS backplane:
    1. Install the RPS backplane in the server.

    2. Connect the RPS backplane cables to the system board.
    3. Secure the RPS backplane cables in the cable clips.

  14. Install a hot-plug power input module in power supply bay 1.

  15. If you intend to enable power redundancy in the server, install a second power input module in power supply bay 2:
    1. Remove the power supply blank.

    2. Install a hot-plug power input module in power supply bay 2.
  16. If removed, install the primary PCI riser cage.
  17. Install the air baffle.
  18. Install the access panel.
  19. Install the server into the rack.
  20. Connect the power cords to the power supplies.
  21. To prevent accidental power cord disconnection when sliding the server in and out of the rack, secure the power cord in the strain relief strap attached to the power input module handle:
    1. Unwrap the strain relief strap from the power input module handle.

      CAUTION: Avoid tight bend radii to prevent damaging the internal wires of a power cord or a server cable. Never bend power cords and server cables tight enough to cause a crease in the sheathing.

    2. Bend the plug end of the power cord in the position shown in the following image.

    3. Secure the power cord with the strain relief strap.

  22. Connect the power cords to the AC power source.
  23. Employ best practices to route and manage the power cords and other cables in the server rear panel.
  24. Power up the server.
