Remove a fan
CAUTION: To prevent improper cooling and thermal damage, do not operate the server unless all bays are populated with either a component or a blank.
To remove the component:
- Do one of the following:
- For tower models, open and remove the tower bezel.
- For rack models, if installed, remove the security bezel.
- Power down the server.
- Remove all power:
- Disconnect each power cord from the power source.
- Disconnect each power cord from the server .
- Do one of the following:
- For tower models, place the server on a flat, level surface with the access panel facing up.
- For rack models, extend the server from the rack.
- Remove the access panel.
- Locate the fan to be removed.
- Remove a fan.
CAUTION: Do not operate the server for long periods with the access panel open or removed. Operating the server in this manner results in improper airflow and improper cooling that can lead to thermal damage.IMPORTANT: For optimum cooling, install fans in all primary fan locations.
