Edit appliance networking settings

Use the Edit appliance screen to configure network settings and edit time and language settings.

To edit appliance networking settings

  1. Select Settings from the main menu.

  2. Select Edit from the Appliance panel.

Edit Appliance networks screen details

Insight Control server provisioning has an Appliance IP and a Deployment IP. At first time setup you specify the appliance networking assignment. Later you can edit appliance networking using the Edit Appliance screen. For complete information about the available network configurations, see the Insight Control server provisioning Installation Guide.

Select 1 Appliance to edit the Appliance IP configuration (see Appliance IP).

Select 2 Deployment to edit the Deployment IP configuration (see Deployment IP).

[IMPORTANT: ]

IMPORTANT: After first time setup you should not change the Deployment IP address. You can change the Appliance IP as needed. If you change the Appliance IP, the appliance generates a new SSL certificate for secure communications with your browser.

Deployment IP

[IMPORTANT: ]

IMPORTANT: Once the Deployment IP addresses (either just IPv4 or both IPv4 and IPv6) are set during the first time setup, they should not be changed. Even when changing between Shared and Independent modes, always keep any previously set Deployment IP addresses the same and change the Appliance IP as needed.

Screen component Description
Select the Deployment network interface in the Edit Appliance screen to edit the settings for the Deployment IP. The following fields are displayed for you to edit.
Shared with appliance interface

Description:

Select this option to assign the Deployment IP on the same network interface as the Appliance IP. This configuration only uses the first network adapter on the VM.

If you select the Shared with appliance interface option then you will see the field to enter an IPv4 address for the Deployment IP. And if you assigned an IPv6 address for the Appliance IP you will also see a field for optionally setting an IPv6 address for the Deployment IP.

Default value:

None

Required:

Either the Shared with appliance interface or Independent option must be selected.

See the Insight Control server provisioning Installation Guide for complete information about the available network configurations.

Independent on <MAC address>

Description:

Select this option to configure the Deployment IP on a different network interface than the Appliance IP. This configuration requires two network adapters on the VM and the Deployment IP will be on the second one.

If you select the Independent option, additional fields will be displayed for entering IPv4 and optionally IPv6 address information for the second NIC.

Default value:

None

Required:

Either the Shared with appliance interface or Independent option must be selected.

IPv4 settings
IP address

Description:

The IPv4 Deployment IP address. This is the IP address used by the deployment engine within the appliance. It is used to communicate with a target server’s deployment interface IP address.

If you selected Shared with appliance interface then the IP address for the Deployment IP must be on the same network as the Appliance IP.

If you selected Independent then the IP address for the Deployment IP must be on a different network than the Appliance IP.

[IMPORTANT: ]

IMPORTANT: Once the Deployment IP address is set during the first time setup, it cannot be changed.

This is the IP address to provide to Matrix Operating Environment.

Default value:

None

Required:

Yes

Subnet mask or CIDR

Description:

If you selected the Independent option then the subnet mask or CIDR field is displayed.

IPv4 mask representing the bits reserved for network identification (for example, 255.255.255.0) , or the Classless Internet Domain Routing (CIDR) mask representing the number of bits reserved for network identification. Valid CIDR values are 1 to 30, inclusive.

Default value:

None

Required:

Required only if you selected the Independent option.

IPv6
Address assignment

If you select the Independent option or with the Shared option, if an IPv6 address was assigned for the Appliance IP, then you will have the option to define whether an IPv6 address is assigned to the Deployment IP.

Description

Unassign — IPv6 address for the Deployment IP is unassigned. Clicking this button collapses the IPv6 boxes.

Manual — Expands the IPv6 boxes and allows you to enter the IPv6 Deployment IP address and subnet mask or CIDR. If an IPv6 Deployment IP was entered during first time setup it should not be changed. However if an IPv6 Deployment IP was not set during first time setup you can enter it by selecting Manual.

[IMPORTANT: ]

IMPORTANT: When configuring IPv6, ensure the DNS servers specified support both IPv4 and IPv6 name resolution.

Default value:

Unassign

IP address

Description:

The IPv6 Deployment IP address. Note that even if you assign an IPv6 Deployment IP, all communications to the target servers will use the IPv4 Deployment IP address.

If you selected Shared with appliance interface then the IP address for the Deployment IP must be on the same network as the Appliance IP.

If you selected Independent then the IP address for the Deployment IP must be on a different network than the Appliance IP.

[IMPORTANT: ]
