Installing the storage controller and FBWC module options

To install the component:

  1. Power down the server.
  2. Remove all power:
    1. Disconnect each power cord from the power source.
    2. Disconnect each power cord from the server.
  3. Do one of the following:
  4. Remove the access panel.
  5. If installed, remove the air scoop from the storage controller/HBA.

    For more information, see the documentation that ships with the option.

  6. If you intend to use an FBWC module, install the module on the storage controller. Depending on the controller model, the cable connector on the cache module might be facing up or down when the module is installed on the controller board.
    1. Connect the cache module backup power cable to the module.

    2. Install the cache module on the storage controller.

  7. Install the storage controller.
  8. If a cache module is installed on a storage controller located in the onboard PCIe3 x8 slot 3, connect the cache module backup power cable to the system board.

  9. If a cache module is installed on a storage controller located in the two-slot PCI riser cage, do the following:
    1. Guide the cache module backup power cable underneath the rear end of the riser cage.
    2. Install the two-slot PCI riser cage.
    3. Connect the cache module backup power cable to the system board.

  10. Connect all necessary internal cables to the storage controller.

    For internal drive cabling information, see the "Storage cabling" section in the server user guide.

  11. If you are planning to install the Smart Storage Battery Pack, install it now.
  12. Install the access panel.
  13. Do one of the following:
  14. Power up the server.
  15. If you are planning to install new drives, install them now.
