Completing the Intelligent Provisioning setup wizard

The first time you access Intelligent Provisioning on an HPE server, you must complete the first time setup wizard. These basic settings enable Intelligent Provisioning to display the proper language and time, set basic boot options, and communicate on your network. Entries marked with an asterisk (*) are required.

Prerequisites
  • Your server is installed and ready for use, including any network cabling

  • The initial credentials from the server tag

Procedure
  1. On the Intelligent Provisioning main screen, click First Time Set Up Wizard.
  2. Select an Interface Language, Keyboard Language, and Time Zone, or accept the defaults.
    1. Click the displayed date or time.
    2. Select the correct date from the calendar, and select the correct time from the clock.
  3. Under Boot BIOS Mode, select UEFI Optimized Boot.
Other options are available, including the following:
    • Legacy Boot Mode

    • UEFI Optimized Boot Disabled

For the best feature availability and ease of use, HPE recommends selecting UEFI Optimized Boot. You can switch to other boot modes as needed using configuration settings available after the wizard is complete.

    NOTE:

Any changes you make to the system boot mode only take effect during OS installation or the next time the server is rebooted.

  4. Click Next.

    The EULA screen displays.

  5. Read the EULA and then click Accept Intelligent Provisioning EULA.
  6. Click Next.

The optimization and privacy settings screen displays.

  7. Under the What will this server be used for? menu, select General Power Efficient Compute. The available settings generally cover the different intended uses for your new server. The settings include most power efficient, highest performance, a balance between power efficiency and performance, and more. Making a selection here automatically adjusts other configuration settings, such as power consumption capping and CPU performance. You can adjust the settings in the BIOS/Platform Configuration settings available after the wizard is complete.

  8. Enable the following settings:
    TIP:

To enable settings with a selection button, move the selection button to the right. Enabled items turn the button green.

    • Enable F10 functionality

    • Provide anonymous usage and error feedback

    • Allow the collection of anonymous usage data

  9. Click Next.

    The Network Settings screen displays.

  10. Select your Network Settings:
    1. For Choose network interface for updates and installs, select Automatic.

Selecting Automatic allows Intelligent Provisioning to briefly check for traffic on the available NICs on your server, and to choose the first one in which it finds a connection. The selected NIC will then be used for future updates and installations.

    2. Enable DHCP Auto-Configuration.

This selection allows Intelligent Provisioning to automatically determine the network details required to communicate on your network.

    3. (Optional) Enable Use Proxy and enter the HTTP/HTTPS URL and port.

Only enable this setting if you use a proxy server on your network. If you enable the setting, you must enter the URL and port for the proxy server (or secure proxy server).

  11. Select your iLO Network Settings:
    NOTE:

If you have already setup the iLO network settings in the iLO web interface, the following settings may be already completed. If so, skip this step.

    1. Enable DHCP Auto-Configuration.
    2. Leave Off disabled.

Enabling the Off selection will make the server unavailable to iLO. HPE recommends leaving this setting disabled.

  12. Under System Software Update, select Update from HPE.com.

This selection allows Intelligent Provisioning to prompt you when updates are available, and then download any software updates for your server directly from the HPE website.

  13. Click Next, and then click Yes when asked to confirm.

The Job Configuration Viewer screen displays. This screen shows a single job ready for processing by Intelligent Provisioning, named First Time Set Up Wizard.

  14. Click Launch Now, or if you want to start the wizard over, click Delete.

The screen then displays the Server Status of the job as Intelligent Provisioning applies your chosen settings. When complete, the screen displays the main Intelligent Provisioning screen with two new buttons: Express OS Install, and Perform Maintenance.
