Installing a storage blade

Prerequisites
CAUTION:

To prevent improper cooling and thermal damage, do not operate the storage blade unless the first three drive bays are populated with either a drive or a blank.

CAUTION:

To prevent improper cooling and thermal damage, do not operate the enclosure unless all server drive bays and enclosure device bays are populated with either a component or a blank.

CAUTION:
Thermal regulation is maintained only when the drive drawer is closed. The drive drawer open alarm is triggered under the following conditions:
  • A slow beep and flash (1 every 5 seconds) indicate that the drive drawer is open. The drives are not fully protected by system air flow.

  • A fast beep and flash (2 per second)—To avoid drive damage or data loss and storage blade shutdown, close the drive drawer immediately.

When the drives reach critical temperatures, the system shuts down.

Procedure
  1. Install the drives into the storage blade drive drawer.
  2. Be sure that the partner server blade is powered down or not installed before installing the server blade.
  3. Remove the enclosure connector cover.

  4. Prepare the c7000 for installation of the partner server blade and storage blade.
    CAUTION:

When installing half-height blades in a quadrant, always install a divider in that quadrant. Failure to install the divider can result in damage to the connectors on the server blades.

  5. Prepare the storage blade for installation.

  6. Push the storage blade into the enclosure until it is fully seated.
    NOTE:

Do not secure the enclosure latch until it has started to engage with the enclosure.

  7. Secure the enclosure latch.

  8. Install a partner server blade. For more information, see the documentation that ships with the server blade.
  9. Configure the storage blade.
