Removing the heatsink

WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the drives and the internal system components to cool before touching them.
CAUTION: To prevent damage to electrical components, take the appropriate anti-static precautions before beginning any installation, removal, or replacement procedure. Improper grounding can cause electrostatic discharge.

Procedure

  1. Power down the server .
  2. Remove all power:
    1. Disconnect each power cord from the power source.
    2. Disconnect each power cord from the server.
  3. Do one of the following:
  4. Remove the access panel.
  5. Remove the air baffle.
  6. Remove the heatsink.
    1. Loosen one pair of diagonally opposite screws halfway, and then loosen the other pair of screws.
    2. Completely loosen all screws in the same sequence.
    3. Remove the heatsink from the processor backplate.
