Installing the NVIDIA Tesla T4 GPU accelerator

CAUTION:

To prevent improper cooling and thermal damage, do not operate the server unless all device bays are populated with either a component or a blank.

Prerequisites

Before you perform this procedure, make sure that you have the following items available:

  • NVIDIA Tesla T4 GPU accelerator

  • T-10 Torx screwdriver

  • T-15 Torx screwdriver

  • Phillips No. 1 screwdriver

Procedure
  1. Power down the server.
  2. Disconnect all peripheral cables from the server.
  3. Remove the server from the chassis.
  4. Remove the bayonet board.
  5. Remove the three-slot secondary riser cage.
  6. Remove the three-slot secondary riser cage thermal brackets.
  7. If you are installing the two single-width GPU in slot 4 and 6, remove the GPU support brackets.

    • Removal of front support bracket:

      1. Remove the support bracket front screws.

      2. Remove the support bracket side screws.

      3. Pull out the front support bracket.

    • Removal of rear support bracket:

      1. Remove the rear support bracket screws.

      2. Pull out the rear support bracket.

  8. Install the new front support bracket on the GPU to be installed in slot 4 and 6.

  9. If you are installing the two single-width GPU in slot 4 and 6 of the five-slot secondary riser, do the following:
    1. Slide the cable clip outward.
    2. Install the GPU in slot 4 and 6.
    3. Slide the cable clip inward.

  10. Install the screws to secure the GPU to the chassis.

  11. Install the riser slot 4 thermal bracket.
  12. If you are installing the two single-width GPU in slot 3 and 5 of the five-slot secondary riser, remove the secondary riser slot blank from slot 3 and 5.

  13. Install the GPU in five-slot secondary riser slot 3.

  14. Install the GPU in five-slot secondary riser slot 5.

  15. Install the following brackets:
  16. Connect the GPU power cable to the five-slot secondary riser board and the bayonet board.
  17. Install the five-slot secondary riser cage.
  18. Install the bayonet board.
  19. Install the server into the chassis.
  20. Connect all peripheral cables to the server.
  21. Power up the server.

The installation is complete.
