Installing a storage controller

This section only covers the installation of a storage controller board option for the internal drive cage. The front drive cage is always connected to port 1 and port 2 of the onboard controller.

Prerequisites
WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury, electric shock, or damage to the equipment, remove power from the system by removing the power cord. The front panel Power On/Standby button does not shut off system power. Portions of the power supply and some internal circuitry remain active until AC power is removed.
CAUTION: To prevent improper cooling and thermal damage, do not operate the server unless all PCI slots have either an expansion slot cover or an expansion board installed.
CAUTION:

Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends performing a backup of all server data before installing or removing a controller or adapter.

Before installing this option, be sure that you have the components included with the hardware option kit.

Procedure
  1. Power down the system (Power down the system).
  2. Remove all power:
    1. Disconnect each power cord from the power source.
    2. Disconnect each power cord from the system.
  3. Remove the system from the rack (Remove the system from the rack).
  4. Place the system on a flat, level work surface.
  5. Remove the access panel (Remove the access panel).
  6. Remove the air baffle (Remove the air baffle).
  7. Do one of the following:
  8. Connect all necessary cables to the controller depending on your system configuration (Cabling).
  9. Connect the controller backup power cable to the connector on the system or riser board.
  10. Install the air baffle (Install the air baffle ).
  11. Install the access panel (Install the access panel).
  12. Install the system into the rack (Installing the system into the rack).
  13. Power up the system (Power up the system).
